The beautiful capital city of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu (KK) lies at a long strip of land that is sandwiched between the South China Sea and the Signal Hill. While many accommodations can be found in the city area, Habiba Suites chooses to be different, since it is perched on much higher ground up on Signal Hill. By road it is about a kilometre away from the downtown area, but the view from Habiba Suites has the whole city of Kota Kinabalu placed right below its foothill. The apartment complex where Habiba Suites occupies now was once used as government housing quarters for the senior servants. This building has been around since the 70s. After some serious renovations in 2009, the Habiba Suites, a service apartments, was opened for business in March, 2010. These apartment units are divided into Apartel Suites and Studio Apartments. There are 17 units in total.
The Apartel Suite is quite a big unit which covers well over a thousand square feet. Upon entering the suite one will be greeted by a nice and cozy living room and the neat dinning room beside it. The living room has comfortable sofa furnitures that can easily sit five. A rectangular coffee table, and a television set with Astro services make up the rest of the room. This room is equipped with an air conditioner too. The Apartel Suite has three rooms, namely the master bedroom, double room and a single room. These rooms can accommodate a minimum of six individuals with ease.
The master bedroom is the largest. It has a double bed and a single bed lying side by side as well as an attached bathroom. The Double room has two single beds and it has a door that is connecting to the common bathroom. The smallest room is the single bedroom which has a single bed only. There is no attached bathroom and one will have to share the common bathroom. All these rooms have an individual split-units air-conditioner. The kitchen, quite a spacious room, is equipped with all the modern necessities. A fridge, a rice cooker, a hot plate cooker, plates and cutleries are all provided for the guests. With this kitchen guests can do their own cooking and it is also very convenient since there are no restaurant or cafe nearby. The Apartel Suites are serviced by a lift and it only reaches the fifth floor.
All the Apartel Suites have a long balcony with rattan chairs that look directly out to the city and beyond. The view here is simply breath-taking as it covers the whole of KK. The scenery consists of the harbour front, the city buildings plus the islands and the sea. The sunset view here is also very enchanting.
The Studio Apartment is much smaller in size when compared to the Apartel Suite. A kitchen with dining table, a bathroom and a bedroom are all that make up the Studio Apartment. The bed room comes with a single bed and a queen bed, good for three persons. This room has a television set with Astro services and also a split-units air-conditioner plus fan. The setting of this bed room is rather relax and cozy as warm yellow lights are used. Like the Apartel Suite, the kitchen here is also equipped with the basic modern utilities like fridge, a rice cooker, a hot plate cooker, plates, cups and cutleries. Even though there is no balcony here, a hall way that looks out to the sea is more or less make up for it. Guests who stay at the studio apartments will have to use the staircase, since there is no lift service on this block.

For the beautiful view of the surrounding areas guests can go up to the roof top. The view at the roof top here is even better than the one at the KK Observatory Tower. As the observatory tower is blocked by part of the Signal hill, the roof top here is not and the view here covers a much larger areas. A 360 degree view of this place includes the KK Wetland Centre, Sport complex, the Likas hills and of course the city as well as the sea and islands. Garden chairs and tables are provided for the guests to relax and enjoy the view, and in the late evening the place can be quite breezy at times.
Special occasions like birthday, wedding, and company event can be organized here. Guests would like to make use of the beautiful scenery from the Habiba Suites garden which offers a very good view of KK. A perfect place to charm the invited guests. Meeting rooms with PA system and Karaoke set are also available. For food and beverage, one will have to arrange with the management prior to the event.
How to go there? Look for Padang Street in downtown Kota Kinabalu, and drive up to the Signal Hill. If coming from KK downtown turn left and travel up the small and winding road for about one kilometre. Upon reaching the top of the hill before the road begins to go downhill, a big white building on the left is the Habiba Suites. It is about one hundred metres away from the Kota Kinabalu Observatory Tower. There are no buses coming here so guests will have to rely on taxi, which cost about RM 10 one way to downtown KK.
