Melanian Kopitiam has opened another outlet which is the third one, and it is located right at the historical Beach street. For folks who work in downtown KK, now they can enjoy a good tasty mixed pork noodle without travelling up to Inanam or Lintas commercial plaza. Melanian specializes on one type of hawker food called mixed pork noodle, popularly known to the Chinese as “Sang Nyuk Man”. The mouth watering mixed pork soup comes with ingredients like sliced pork meat, pork intestine, pork liver, pork heart, pork kidney, pork tendon and cuttlefish-pork meat balls. Do remember that extra soup here is always free of charge, and one of the open secret on making good and tasty mixed pork noodle is to use only fresh meat.
Customers will have a choice of dry noodle, where locals called kon-lou noodle, or have the noodle served with the mixed pork soup. The sauce used for the dry noodle is a kind of dark sweet sauce, very delicious indeed. For alternative taste customers can always substitute the noodle with either Kui Teoy or vermicelli. Price for mixed pork noodle starts from RM 5.50 onwards.
For side dishes customers can try the Braised Chicken feet with Mushroom (RM 5.00 small) or the stuffed tofu (RM 1.30 each), which is bean curd to some. There are two types of tofu here, the oily tofu or the plain white tofu, both of them are served with stuffed pork meat.
Local drinks hot or cold are served at Melanian Kopitiam. These local drinks include the ubiquitous Milo, the crowd favourite Nescafe, Teh C, iced lemon tea and the traditional local Sabahan Kopi “O”, which is Sabah Coffee. If you want some extra oomph in your drink try out the Kit Chai or Ham Kit. Like most other kopitiams soft drinks are also available here. Drinks are priced from RM 1.00 to RM 2.00.
The shop interior has a typical kopitiam style but it is clean and tidy. Tissue papers are provided in the few boxes that are fixed on the surrounding walls. Interesting to know that this kopitiam is run by ladies only, which are the waitress, captain, cashier and the chef. So guys you’ll be out of luck if you want to work here. Melanian 3 is on facebook too. Customers would also like to know that Melanian has two more branches which can be found in Inanam and lintas commercial plaza respectively.
Business hours: 7am to 2pm.
How to go there? Look for Beach Street (Jalan Pantai) which is next to Gaya Street on the older part of Kota Kinabalu City. Melanian 3 Kopitiam is located on the block next to Milimewah Superstore, used to be the old Central Market. This shop used to be the old Nam Hin Restaurant and Hotel.
