Open in August 2009, Cititel Express belongs to the Cititel group which caters to business travellers who like to mix business with pleasure. Though it is not situated at the heart of Kota Kinabalu, its location on the southern end of KK is still good enough to go around KK with ease. Yes, even on foot. Warisan Square, Centre Point Shopping Mall, KK Waterfront and the seafood restaurants at Sri Selera are just 5 to 10 minute walk from the hotel.
Cititel Express is a 12-storey building, it dwarfs the surrounding buildings and shoplots. It is also an eye catcher, with its striking external colours of red, orange and beige (main colour). 275 rooms are available for booking at Cititel Express. Options range from the standard single, standard double, superior twin and superior triple. All rooms have a built in washroom, with toilet and shower, and basic amenities like 32” wide LCD TV with satellite channels, electronic safe, and hairdryer. On every floor there is a cold and hot water dispenser, and a common ironing room. If these needs arise, guests can request for sea view room, and internet service is chargeable at RM 10 for 24 hours. Note: All the superior twin rooms do not have windows.

If you want to pamper yourself, opt for the one and only studio room at Cititel Express. This is the best room in the hotel. Situated on the highest floor (12 floor), it comes with two big rooms. Upon entering the studio, the first room consists of a kitchen, dinning, and living area. The kitchen is equipped with cooking utensils, dinner set, a cooking stove, and a small fridge. Dinning area is basic with a round table and four orange chairs. Living area has comfortable sofas and LCD TV set. The other room comes with a big king size bed and en-suite bathroom. To accommodate more family members the studio room is extendable with an adjacent family rooms.
On the ground floor opposite the reception area is the Next Cafe, which serves simple western and local dishes. Starting as early as 6:30 am, breakfast buffet is available for as little as RM 12. Chinese congee, continental breakfast, fried noodle, fruits, nasi lemak, pancake, sandwiches are just some of the items found on the breakfast buffet. Ala carte menu consists of cheese omelette, spaghetti, fish and chips, home baked chicken and stewed beef. Local dishes include beef rendang, sambal prawn, and fried noodle or mee hoon. Tired of hotel foods, just walk around the shoplots near Cititel Express where you can find plenty of restaurants and kopitiams. From the simple local hawker dishes to the classy Japanese sushi and many other cuisines.
For small function, the hotel has two meeting rooms, one in the lobby and the other in the basement. On the main floor besides the reception counter, a tour arrangement assistant is there to help out on your travelling plans.
