Bayu Lodge Tinompok

Bayu Lodge Tinompok is a bungalow style rest house that caters for those holiday goers who demand a budget accommodation. Located just 500 metres before the entrance to Kinabalu Park, this is also an idea place for a good night sleep before climbing the majestic Mt. Kinabalu. Since the lodge is built just beside the main road, coaches and buses can easily drop off the guests by the road side. Talk about convenience, a restaurant with the same name as the lodge is situated just beside it. The interior of the lodge can be best described as basic and clean. Types of rooms available are single room, standard twin bed, double bed, family, and dormitory. The beds here are decorated with a nice purple colour bedding. For special function or big group travelling, guests can rent the entire house for a special price. Note: This is not a home stay, even though the wording “homestay” is written on the signboard.

The ground floor consists of a reception area, family room, dormitory with three bunk beds, one single room at the back, a common toilet and shower room, and a small kitchen, while the upper floor has a common TV room, one queen bed room, dormitory with two bunked beds, and a common toilet and shower room. On the outside there is a small hut that allows guests to enjoy a good BBQ. Guests have to bring their own BBQ stove though. The hut gives a commanding view of the Bundu Tuhan Valley below, with green rolling hills, dotted villages and the many temperate farm lands, one of the major economy at Kundasang.

The Bayu Kinabalu Restaurant offers simple western and local food. Guests can dine out at the outdoor porch and enjoy the cool weather of Kinabalu Park, or choose to dine in to avoid the cold wind. Here is a price guide: Toast with butter and jam (RM 2.50), Mushroom Omelette (RM 4.50), and Lam Chop (RM 16.00). Food served here are halal.

How to go there? Take the Kota Kinabalu-Ranau road. Perching at the right hand side is Bayu Lodge, which is aboutut 500 metres before Kinabalu Park Headquarters. For the independent travellers, there is a daily bus from Kota Kinabalu to Ranau for RM 15.00 at 8:00 am near the Padang Bus Station, and it will pass by Bayu Lodge. Budget taxi which only leaves with 4 passengers can be located here too.
