Sarangnova is, a newly opened hotel, located right at the heart of the old Gaya Street. The name Sarangnova simply means bird’s nest and stars. This hotel has an unique theme which showcases the birds of Borneo, especially those that are endemic to Sabah. A total of 26 rooms are available at this hotel, and each of the room is designed with a special bird, and no room is alike. These birds with their colourful feathers also help to create different displays, colour schemes, and special effects for each room. Guests can choose to stay at a particular room that they like, or stay in different rooms each time they visit Sarangnova. Some of the birds that grace the rooms are the White Fronted Falconet, Bornean Bristlehead, Black & Crimson Pitta, and Rhinoceros Hornbill. These bird pictures were taken by the well known Sandakan photographer and conservationist, Cede Prudente.

This bird theme hotel is also a timely addition to boost Sabah Tourist industry, as Sabah Tourism Board has just launched its first Bird Watching Festival in Sandakan last month, officially promoting Sabah as a bird watching paradise. Sarangnova is surely going to kindle the heart of the bird watchers who spend a few nights there.

The rooms at Sarangnova are divided into four types: Single, Queen Bed, Twin Sharing and Family (Triple Sharing). The rooms are located on the first, second and third floor, and there is a lift for the ease of guests. All rooms come with an attached bathroom, air-conditioner, LCD television, cordless electric water kettle, multiple pin power socket, broadband wireless internet connection.

The Sarangnova lobby is decorated with a big print of Gaya Street of 1957. The location of the print is directly opposite the street, if one is sitting at the lobby which creates a mirror image of past and present. Here one can compare how much had changed since then. Sarangnova location on Gaya Street also gives guests good access to other parts of Kota Kinabalu even on foot.  Sabah Tourism Building is only two blocks away, and Jesselton Point is just a bit further. On Sunday, the Gaya Street Fair is right in front of the hotel door step.

This hotel does not operate a cafe or restaurant, but food is never a problem, as there are numerous cafes and restaurants along Gaya Street. The Beach Cafe on Beach Street is also near by, and every night live bands are performing and the bar has a wonderful selection of cocktails and wines.

How to go there? Sarangnova is located at Gaya Street, which is at the centre of Kota Kinabalu. From the entrance of Gaya Street, Sarangnova is three blocks away.
