The location of Mount Kinabalu Holiday Home is situated almost at the boundary of Kinabalu National Park. This holiday home is not very far from the Timpohok Hut, which is the starting point for the climbers. About 260 degree of Mount Kinabalu holiday home is surrounded by green forest hills, and has Mt. Kinabalu as the back drop. The front part of the holiday home has a great view that looks out to the Kiau Valley, passing many rolling hills before reaching the horizon, which is the South China Sea. This place also offers great privacy, as it is hidden away from the public eyes. Only a small 300 metre road, which turn in and up over a small hill from the main road, will lead you to this quiet and serene holiday home. At times this place seems like paradise in a lost world.
There are only three chalets available for rental at RM 150 each. Each chalet consists of a living room and two bedrooms. Room One can accommodate three persons, and Room Two can sleep two. Pillows and warm blankets are provided for the comfort of the guests. Cooking stoves at the kitchen, and hot shower at the wash room are the other facilities available. At the entrance of the chalets, a BBQ stove is ready free of charge. Guests only need to bring their own charcoal and foods. BBQ dinner is a fun and enjoyable activity at this place. Fairly cold weather at night, about 17 degrees Celsius, and hot cook foods seem like a good combination. The management will provide free transport to the Kinabalu Park for the chalets occupants.
On top of the reception house is a big dormitory room which can sleep up to 66 persons. These beds are the cheapest around this area, at RM 15 to RM 20 per bed per night, this is as budget as you can get. The dormitory has a washroom with hot shower and kitchen. Mee Zee restaurant, more like a canteen, beside the reception office offers simple food, like fried rice and fried noodle. Hot drinks like coffee, milo and tea are also available. Soft drinks are a luxury here. The management can also arrange transport to Kinabalu Park Headquarters (RM 4-8) and Kundasang town (RM 15).
Haleluyah Retreat Centre
A three level retreat house is located at the entrance to the Mount Kinabalu Holiday Home. This retreat centre has accommodation for 70 persons and a conference hall that can hold up to 70 persons. For adults the price for a bed is RM 15 – RM 20, and a special price of RM 10 per pax per night for students. Ample parking spaces are available for the guests.
How to get there? From Kota Kinabalu: drive about 90km towards Kinabalu Park Headquarters. Some 2 km before the entrance to Kinabalu Park Headquarters, and just about 200 metres after the junction to Bundu Tuhan Retreat Centre, look for the big Mount Kinabalu Holiday Home or Haleluyah Retreat Centre signboard and turn in. Follow the narrow cement road that goes up a small hill and travel just another 300 metres then you have reached your destination.
For the independent travellers, there is a daily bus from Kota Kinabalu to Ranau for RM 15.00 at 8:00 am near the Padang Bus Station, and it will pass by Mount Kinabalu Holiday Home (main road only). Budget taxi which only leaves with 4 passengers can be located here too.
