Where does one begin to search for a good bowl of laksa in down town Kota Kinabalu, which has so many restaurants. Well the search stops at Yee Fung Kopitiam. Located along the oldest street of Kota Kinabalu, which is famous for it’s Sunday Gaya Street Fairs, Yee Fung Kopitaim serves one of the best laksa in Kota Kinabalu. The crowds testify to this, for Yee Fung kopitaim is always full with customers from morning until afternoon, and this has been going on for the past 25 years.
Among the ingredients of this delicious laska are prawns, fried egg slices, chicken shreds, small dried to fu, and of course the distinctive and tantalizing laksa soup blends with coconut milk. The happy owner of Yee Fung kopitiam mentions that he has learned how to prepare laksa in Sarawak before coming to Kota Kinabalu, but later he has come up with his own recipe to better suit the local taste.
Other than fabulous laksa, Yee Fung Kopitiam is also well-known for its Ngau Chap and Clay Pot Chicken Rice. The Ngau Chap soup here has its own optimal flavour, and the Ngau Chap together with the soup comes with beef balls, beef slices, tripe and of course the noodles. The Clay Pot Chicken Rice comes with a special clay pot that is very hot. Customers are provided with a big spoon to dish out the hot steamy rice, chicken meat and a very special chicken black sauce.
Apart from cooking up these three special dishes, the price at Yee Fung is equally fabulous, economy at its best. Medium laksa and Ngau Chap at RM 4, the large one is priced at RM 5, while the Clay Pot Chicken Rice is at RM 4.50. Business hours start at the early monring, 7am and end at 4 pm.
