Planning for a wonderful and affordable buffet dinner with friends and families? Why not try out the Fishermen Village (Kampung Nelayan) Floating Seafood Market Restaurant which is specialised in Seafood, as well as BBQ and Steamboat buffet. Located about 10 minutes away from the Kota Kinabalu City centre, and at the entrance of Tun Fuad Stephens Park (Bukit Padang), most of Fishermen Village Restaurant was build on top of a small lake.
The Fishermen Village Restaurant can be divided into four sections. The main restaurant, which seats 200 persons, is an open air restaurant with a traditional Malay roof, and serves selected seafood as well as steamboat set. Free of charge nightly cultural dances are performed from 7:45pm to 9 pm at the centre stage to the delight of tourists and locals alike.
The VIP room was built in a shape of traditional wooden boat, it can fit in as many as 60 persons and it has air-condition. The large Putera Hall on the hill side is only used for special functions, like wedding, anniversary and annual dinners. And the very popular BBQ and steamboat buffet is at the Beijing open air section which look out to the lake and seat about 150 persons.
The BBQ and steamboat buffet dinner is an interesting experience where guests will not forget. A wide selection of raw and marinated meats, seafood, and fresh vegetables that scatter around four tables are provided for the guests to choose and mix. At the centre of each tables, is a stove designed with a pot in the middle and hot plate around it. This ingenious device is what BBQ and steamboat buffet is all about. Once back on the table guests can choose either to steam or BBQ their foods until ready. Yes! ones have to cook the meal themselves.
Crab, mushroom, prawn, sweet corn, vegetables, wantan, and fish balls which come in many different shaped are best cooked with the steamy soup. The nutrients from the varieties of seafood and vegetable also help to make the soup extra sweet. Guests get to choose their soup either from the chicken stock base or the hot spicy tom yam.
Marinated beef, satay beef, marinated triplets, spicy triplets, lamb, marinated chicken, and cuttlefish are best cooked with the hot plate. Extra attention are needed here, so that the foods are not over cook. Mixed up some interesting sauce with garlics, sesame oil, oyster sauce and some freshly chopped spring onions is going to make ones food packed with mind popping flavours.
While waiting for the raw food and fresh vegetables to be cooked, ones can also opt for the many ready cooked dishes like fried noodle, fried be hoon, fried kui tiau and fried rice. Or ones can have a do it yourself nasi lemak, all the basic ingredients like rice, cucumber, boiled eggs, ground nuts, and sambal are there ready to be mixed up. The Beef Rendang a local Malay dish is a must try delicacy. Fresh local fruits like papaya, pineapple, star fruits, and watermelon are good for desert. The price for the BBQ and steamboat buffet dinner is at RM 30 ++. Children below 3 feet is free.
It is wise to book for a table in advance, the BBQ and steamboat buffet dinner can be very crowded at time. A note from the management: Eat as much as one can, but leave nothing. Extra left on the table will be charged RM 3 for every 100 gm.
Business hours are from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm and the main restaurant also open for lunch time crowds from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. Fishermen Village has a new branch, BBQ Hotpot, at 1Borneo Hypermall, and the business hours are from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Fishermen Village serves no pork.
