Satay or sate is a dish consisting of chunks or slices of small sized meat on skewers from the midrib of the coconut leaf. Popular meats use for satay are chicken, beef, lamb and even fish. The meats on the skewer are then barbecued over charcoal fire, and then served with various spicy seasoning, especially the spicy peanut gravy.
In Malaysia most of the satay joints are run by hawkers in open air food courts or just a small vendor beside a restaurant. Sate Mesra has striven to be different. It has changed satay into a fully scale fast food style restaurant with air-condition section as well as open air area. Sate Mesra is also the first satay restaurant in east Malaysia.
The popular dishes in Sate Mesra are the satay combo meals. The Sate Mesra combo meals come with six sticks of satay, which customers can choose from among six different type of meats. These choices are beef, chicken, fish, lamb, prawn, and tripe. Nasi himpit (sticky rice), a spring roll, a hot bun, spicy gravy and a soft drink are included in the every combo meals. Price starts from RM 7.50 to RM 15.50 depending on the choice of satay.
Other than satay Sate Mesra also served many popular asian delights like Laksa Sarawak, Kampung Fried Rice, Fried Koew Teow, Nasi Lemak, Beef Rendang, and Prawn Sambal, just to name a few. Price starts from RM 5.50. Dessert like cakes and ice cream are on sale too.
The Sate Mesra is located along Jalan Kolombong at City Mall, which is about 15 mintues away from Kota Kinabalu. The restaurant occupied the ground and first floor of a shop lot just next to Starbucks Cafe on the right side of the City Mall main entrance. City Mall is also popular with its many restaurants and cafes
