This year Borneo International Marathon, dubbed the beautiful run, is going to be held on 11th October, 2009. Registration starts on 2nd March, 2009, contact the organiser for more information. The Borneo International Marathon is a long-distance running event with an official distance of 42 kilometres that is run as a road race.
International runners are most welcome to join the Borneo International Marathon, after the race, they are welcome to spend sometime in Sabah to enjoy Sabahan warmest hospitality. Local runners who are keen on becoming a marathon runner can take up this opportunity to try out such a race, before venturing into other marathons outside Malaysia.
Besides the Full Marathon Open Category where participants must be 18 years and above, the Borneo International Marathon is also divided into a few other categories. One of the categories is the Veteran Full Marathon for participants age 40 and above. Also in the programme are the Open Half Marathon and Veteran Half Marathon, both categories will need participants to complete a 21 kilometres run. There is also a 10 Kilometres Race for 10 years old and above, as well as a 10 Kilometres Veteran that comes with 2 hours limit time frame. Note: The Full and Half Marathon events are both sanctioned by SAAA under the IAAF Rules.
The 42 kilometres Borneo International Marathon route will pass through many of Kota Kinabalu City interesting points. The race begins at Likas Sports Complex, participants will run toward the Likas Bay, then turn right moving north to the Tun Mustapha Tower, and continue on Jalan Sulaman until they reach 1Borneo, there they make a U turn and run back to Likas Bay. From Likas Bay participants will run straight to Kota Kinabalu commercial centre. Next participants will run south along the coastal highway passing Sutera Harbour, and will eventually reach the Tanjung Aru First Beach. Here participants make the second U turn, and run back to the city centre, the race will end when participants head back to the Likas Sports Complex.
The half marathon and the 10 kilometre race will follow two slightly different routes. The actual routes can be viewed from the maps below:

Attractive cash prizes will be handed out to the winners of the Full Marathon and Half Marathon. Special incentive prizes are also given to the fastest Malaysian men and women. The prizes pay out are listed in the table below:

The entrance fees for the Borneo International Marathon vary from RM 100.00 (Full Marathon), RM 80.00 (Half Marathon) to RM 60.00 (10 km). Special discounts will be given to participants who sign up early.

Note: 10 percent of the entrance fees collected from the Borneo International Marathon will be given out as aids to as many as eight charity organisations in Kota Kinabalu.
